"Someone asked me once what my style of painting was and I told them it was optimistic. I'm not sure if they understood that I was completely serious when making that statement. I want my work to leave the viewer with a sense of joy and optimism."   Katherine Larson

Katherine has been making her living as a professional artist for over 40 years. Her work is primarily commissioned and sold before it's created, making it a challenge to generate a body of work for gallery shows. Katherine has painted over 150 murals in businesses, museums and private residences. She has illustrated 10 nationally distributed children's books and her work has appeared in several magazines. Katherine also runs a graphic arts business designing websites, brochures, logos and collateral materials for all types of businesses.

Nearly every Thursday morning, you can find her leading a group of fellow artists into jungles, beach bars, and hidden places to paint life on the Treasure Coast. Katherine started the "Treasure Coast Plein Air" group in November of 2021. You can follow their adventures here at: TREASURE COAST PLEIN AIR.

"Plein Air painters paint in all kinds of mediums from oils and acrylics to pastels and watercolors. It is a very specialized art. Think of it as a precarious combination of public performance, speed painting, endurance and skill. At the end of the day we all hope for a finished and sale-able painting but in plein air none of us are guaranteed that. Often the plein air painting becomes the study for a larger work done in the studio. Every day I paint is a joy and an adventure. I consider myself the luckiest person on earth to be able to make a living at what I love and I hope this joy and passion expresses itself in my work."  Katherine Larson

One of Katherine's most recent murals was for the Mel Fisher Treasure Museum in Sebastian, Florida. You can see more photos of this installation by clicking here.

"If you are interested in a unique statement for your business or home, feel free to contact me for a complimentary mural site visit. I am able to take a photo of your space and create your mural on the computer so that you can see exactly what the finished work will look like in your environment. A beautiful mural makes a powerful statement that clients and guests will remember. I've done over 150 murals in all kinds of environments. Quotes are always firm and I deliver on time and on budget."  Katherine Larson (772) 696-0113

Katherine recently won "Best in Show" at the 2023 Pelican Island Birding Festival Art Show, as well as "First Place" in both Mixed Media and Oil at "The Sky's the Limit" 2024 Audubon House Show in Vero Beach, Florida. She also had two paintings featured in the prestigious "2023 Best of the Best" show at the A.E. Backus Museum in Fort Pierce. In April of 2024, Katherine was selected to be one of 24 professional plein air artists for the 2024 Paint Out Show at the Polasek Museum in Winter Park.

Katherine also is the founder of the non-profit arts group, Isola Arts which has been putting on art shows in unusual places around the Treasure Coast for the past two years. You can see what the group is up to by visiting www.isolaarts.org. On May 1st, 2025, Isola Arts opened it's first gallery on the grounds of Waldo's Secret Garden. The gallery will be open the first weekend of every month from 3pm to 5pm on Fridays (just prior to the Vero Beach First Friday Gallery Stroll) and 11am to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The gallery will feature Katherine's work and the work of Isola Arts Member Artists. An unusual twist is that the gallery is located in the treasure barn of Waldo Sexton, and patrons can purchase some of Waldo's unique treasures displayed in and around the gallery.
